Character Technical Artist

Bluepoint Games is looking for a CHARACTER TECHNICAL ARTIST to join our team on a full-time basis. Tackle the most complex asset challenges and join us in developing a world-class workflow. Help unleash the potential of our Art team in developing AAA titles.

Please note: This is not an entry-level. Related professional experience is required.


  • Create realistic human characters

  • Help design and develop modular character creation techniques.

  • Refine shader, texture, and lighting quality specifically related to skin, hair, etc.

  • Manipulate facial scan data to create game ready facial poses and textures

  • Support the Character Art team with the development of swappable assets

  • Implement a pipeline for outsourced character assets

  • Help develop character facial rigs for believable motion

  • Setup skin weighting to define ideal deformation

  • Research and develop new art technologies related to modular character systems

  • Help develop tools to improve the team’s efficiency and quality of work

  • Work well in a team-oriented environment


  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the games industry, including experience developing a modular character system, with at least one shipped title (excluding academic projects)

  • Demonstrations of prior realistic character models and textures

  • Highly proficient with ZBrush

  • Expert knowledge of Maya

  • Complete understanding of game workflows and pipelines

  • A portfolio reflecting high-quality game art, scripted tools, and shaders

  • Ability to work onsite at our facility in Austin, TX


  • Maya scripting experience in Python and MEL

  • Experience working with multiple game engines

  • Experience with Allegorithmic Substance Designer/Painter

  • Knowledge of facial motion capture data pipelines

  • Shader authoring skills (HLSL, GLSL, CGFX) knowledge

  • C++, C#, Javascript, or other programming knowledge
